Valerie Norman is currently on the faculty of the The McBurney YMCA, and St. Luke's school in Manhattan, as well as Simply Yoga studio in Great Neck, Long Island.  She has been teaching yoga privately and to groups since 1999.  

Valerie earned her yoga certification in 1999 from the International Sports Medicine Association and also completed Be Yoga's 200 hour program, where she studied under yoga master Alan Finger.  She has completed level 1 of the Radiant Child Yoga program and currently teaches yoga to children at St. Luke's school in Manhattan.  She has also taught yoga and dance to children at The Family School and The Mulberry Street Theater school.

Prior to teaching yoga, Valerie was a personal trainer for 3 years (certified through the American Council on Exercise and the American Red Cross in  C.P.R.).  She trained clients at New York Sports Club, Equinox and privately. 

She holds a B.A.  from Connecticut College (1995), where she majored in Dance and minored in Art History.  Upon graduating, she spent six months in China teaching dance to college seniors at The Beijing Dance Academy. 

Valerie offers insightful teaching of yoga postures through use of imagery and an indepth understanding of anatomy.  She also incorporates tools from The Alexander Technique, Pilates, Thai Yoga Massage and Glopal Postural Reeducation into her teaching methods.  

Valerie is currently enrolled in the 500 hour program at Be Yoga, to be completed next year. She will also continue her studies in Thai Yoga Massage this spring. Valerie believes in continuing education as the key towards keeping her students inspired and helping them grow, both as yogis and as individuals.
